Wheat Crop Update
So far this week I have been busy checking wheat survival. Lots of concern about stands and winter kill. The combination of later planting and ice load has caused significant plant mortality. Flat sections, west facing slopes and tops of hills have virtually no live plants remaining.
Sheltered outer rounds and east slopes have stronger stands. For many farms this adds up to 30-70% of wheat planted after October 10th being killed out. Some earlier planted stands have plant loss from snow mould as well. This is resulting in general stand thinning with relatively small patches killed out.
